The Old House Marbella Overview

First Impressions

Walking into The Old House Marbella feels like discovering a well-kept secret tucked away in Plaza Altamirano. The moment you step through the entrance, you’re struck by how this three-star boutique hotel manages to feel both intimate and polished without trying too hard. There’s something genuinely charming about the traditional Andalusian architecture mixed with thoughtful modern touches — it’s not flashy, but it doesn’t need to be. The staff greets you like they actually want you there, which honestly sets the tone for everything else.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s brilliant about this place? You’re literally in the heart of Marbella’s old town, but tucked away from the main tourist chaos. Plaza Altamirano is this lovely little square that most visitors walk right past, but locals know it’s one of the best spots to people-watch. From here, you can wander to the famous Orange Square in about two minutes, hit the beach in five, or explore those narrow cobblestone streets that make Marbella’s old quarter so special. I mean, couples absolutely love this location — and I get why, because there’s something romantic about having authentic tapas bars and traditional shops right at your doorstep.

The Rooms

The room I stayed in was compact but cleverly designed, with traditional Spanish tiles and wooden beams that reminded me why I love staying in historic buildings. Everything felt clean and well-maintained, though don’t expect huge spaces — this is old town Marbella, after all. The air conditioning works well (crucial in summer), and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. What I really appreciated were the little details: good lighting for reading, decent water pressure in the shower, and windows that actually keep the street noise to a minimum.

Atmosphere & Experience

There’s this relaxed, authentic vibe here that you don’t always find in tourist-heavy areas. The common areas have character — think exposed stone walls and cozy seating where you might chat with other travelers or plan your day. The hotel attracts a nice mix of couples and solo travelers who seem to appreciate the quieter, more genuine side of Marbella. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in someone’s carefully restored family home rather than a generic hotel.

Why Guests Love It

Honestly, it comes down to location and authenticity. You’re getting an incredible position in Marbella’s most charming neighborhood without paying resort prices. The staff knows the area inside and out — they’ll point you toward the best local spots that aren’t overrun with tourists. For couples especially, there’s something special about stepping out your door and being surrounded by the real Marbella, with its narrow streets, traditional architecture, and that relaxed Andalusian pace of life that makes you want to linger over every meal and conversation.

Hotels in Marbella line palm-fringed promenades, whitewashed alleys, and yacht-dotted marinas.

Stunning house in the middle of the old town Marbella. Within walking distance to all the shops, bars and restaurants and situated in a lovely square with 3/4 restaurants below. So nice to wake up and stroll around the streets. We faced the square on a Friday night and no issues with noise.

The location is beautiful, the room was super nice and cosy. The staff was very helpful with parking and overall accommodation. We got a room with a balcony which was super nice overlooking an old town square.
